There are only 17 days left until the end of the year but we are aware of the fact that most of you have already given some thought about your New Year’s resolutions. What is the best way to start 2018? We have a few ideas…
In the middle of next month, on January 14th, our friends across the ocean will celebrate National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day! On this day, all pastrami lovers get their favourite sandwich to get a little festive on this occasion. That is a way to celebrate the over 130 – years old culinary tradition of making pastrami, that has its origins in USA. All thank to Jewish immigrants that came to New York in the nineteenth century.
As we have once already mentioned, the supposed creator of pastrami was a New York butcher Sussman Volk, who served his very first pastrami sandwich in 1887. It is in the States where pastrami is produced in the largest quantities. Legendary places such as Katz’s Delicatessen in New York or Langer’s Deli in Los Angeles serve the largest and for some iconic pastrami sandwiches while some of the local restaurants have created their very own pastrami sandwiches variations and also sell them successfully.
On the National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day, many pastrami sandwich restaurants organize various attractions for their customers; for example, in 2016 Togo’s created a charity ‘Share the Love Pastrami Promotion’ – their customers can get a special code to buy two pastrami sandwiches in the price of one and then, if they chose to share one of those sandwiches with a nearby homeless shelter, they get a drink for free!
Those of Togo’s most hungry customers have been invited to their annual, fourth Pastrami Pounder Challenge. The rules were quite simple: everyone who was able to eat a two-foot-long sandwich in less than 30 minutes got a certificate for a free Pastrami Pounder baseball cap.
We have decided to cherish this tradition in Poland as well and celebrate this day with you! We invite all pastrami lovers to Cracow on the days of the 13th and 14th of January! Our restaurant Food&People by Pastrami Deli has prepared many attractions for you! More information coming soon on our Facebook page. We are waiting for you. See you!
